There's a been a few exceptionally well-done midcentury modern restorations hitting the market as of late, and now another one is up for grabs in Pinellas County.

In the early-1950s, the late architect Glenn Q. Johnson designed his Vision-Aire homes, also known as "Bird Cage" houses, specifically for Florida's hot, humid climate. Today, only a handful are left, and one that has been completely restored is on the market in the Bayou Shores neighborhood.

Located at 4610 Cypress Way S, the home was built in 1953 and is only one of about 13 Vision-Aire homes left in the area.

Inspired by homes he came across while on tour in the Philippines during WWII, Johnson's Vision-Aire homes typically have the same characteristics: they're almost always positioned to face southeast to better catch the breeze, and feature large screened in patios and overhangs, heavy concrete floors, and interior walls built as jalousies for better airflow.

This particular one  has received quite the facelift since it was last sold in 2021. The 1,844-square-foot home now comes with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a new kitchen, a new roof, restored terrazzo and cork flooring, a saltwater pool, and more, says the listing.

Besides the "Bird Cages," Johnson's work can still also be found at the St. Pete Beach Library, the North Shore Aquatic Center, and the Pinellas County Judicial Building, among other well-known structures.

According to property records, this "Bird Cage"was last sold for $659,000. The home is now asking $980,000, and the listing agent is Jane Forbes of MC homes Realty Inc.
