It's not hyperbolic to say that Prince Paul opened the doors of hip-hop for millions of people. The sound and aesthetic that he, together with pioneering rap group De la Soul, invented was a gateway for a new generation and demographic of fans to fall in love with the genre.
Early this month at Crowbar in Ybor City, on Friday, March 3, Prince Paul was in Tampa Bay to celebrate "De La Day" marking the long-awaited release of the band's music on streaming platforms. Joining him were a devoted group of heads who never left left the dance floor as local luminaries DJ Casper and DJ Sandman provided support.
