Located at 741 Pinellas Point Dr. S, the home is just one of roughly 13 remaining Vision-Aire homes in the area.
Also known as "Bird Cage houses" for their distinct, airy design meant to help deal with Florida's balmy weather, the homes were the brainchild of the late Florida architect Glenn Q. Johnson, who drew inspiration from dwellings he saw in the Philippines during WWII.
They're all a little different, but the Vision-Aire homes typically have similar characteristics: they're almost always positioned to face southeast to better catch the breeze, they often feature large screened in patios and overhangs, as well as heavy concrete floors, and interior walls built as jalousies for better airflow.
Built in 1954, this particular Vision-Aire was actually the original project office and model house for the subdivision, and, at the time, it featured a car port and the brand's distinctive screened-in patios.
It now comes with a split design, featuring a total of four bedrooms and three bathrooms, two living areas, a pool, a hot tub hut, and it's zoned for an ADU.
According to property records, the home has been on and off the market since it was last purchased in 2021 for $689,500. The home is currently asking $995,000, and the listing agent is Dylan DeVaughn of Barkett Realty.
Besides the "Bird Cages," Johnson's designs can still be found all over Pinellas County, like at the St. Pete Beach Library, the North Shore Aquatic Center, and the Pinellas County Judicial Building, among other well-known local structures.
