Debby made landfall Aug. 5 as a Category 1 hurricane near Steinhatchee in Taylor County, before moving across rural North Florida. As of Aug. 29, Citizens had received 2,281 claims from the storm, which came up the Gulf of Mexico before landfall.
The largest number of claims, 585, were filed in Pinellas County, followed by 343 in Hillsborough County, 215 in Sarasota County, 204 in Pasco County, 142 in Manatee County and 97 in Hernando County, according to the data.
As of Aug. 29, 1,524 of the statewide claims were open, while 757 had been closed. Citizens closed 75 claims with payments made to policyholders, while 682 claims were closed without payments.
The Citizens Board of Governors’ Claims Committee is scheduled to get a briefing about Hurricane Debby during a meeting Thursday.
