Hurricane Helene has caused immense damage across Florida, specifically to the west coast, including the Big Bend area. The Tampa Bay area has also experienced  tremendous flooding, and power outages, plus damage to homes, buildings, roads and power lines.

Tampa Bay members of Mutual Aid Disaster Relief (MADR), a group that has helped people in several disaster scenarios throughout the year, are working to bring supplies to those hit hardest by the hurricane.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., at Waters Avenue Church, 609 W Waters Ave. in Tampa, MADR will collect extra hurricane supplies to others in need.

The collected supplies will be brought to the Perry and Big Bend areas of Florida to those experiencing the most damage right now.

The items they are most in need of right now are:
- Tarps
- Contractor bags
- Disinfectants
- First-aid supplies
- Personal protective equipment, like masks and gloves

MADR previously worked to gather supplies and help those in need after Hurricane Ian, bringing relief and assistance to those in Fort Myers and the surrounding area.

In the meantime, St. Petersburg and Tampa officials are still urging residents to stay inside while the area's damage is being assessed.

Those unable to go to the physical donation drive can visit mutualaiddisasterrelief.org, @mutualaiddisasterrelief on Instagram or contact [email protected] for more information about donating or providing remote support.

Anyone who can help in Sarasota is asked to contact Greg Cruz (941-704-3511) while those who can assist in Tallahassee should reach out to Madeline Giovannelli (407-694-7448).
