Gov. Ron DeSantis said things will work themselves out after suspended Hillsborough County ccruised Tuesday to a Democratic primary win in his bid to get his job back.

On Wednesday, DeSantis reiterated support for Republican Suzy Lopez in the November election. DeSantis appointed Lopez as state attorney after he suspended Warren in 2022.

“There's a state attorney there that I think's done really well,” DeSantis said during an appearance in Sarasota. “I think all the law enforcement are likely going to be supporting Suzy. A lot of those people came to me and were the ones that really complained about Warren's dereliction of duty. So, I think that'll work itself out. I don't think that's going to be an issue."

Lopez did not face a primary opponent.

Warren on Tuesday night thanked his supporters and Democratic primary opponent Elizabeth Martinez Strauss.

“My focus remains where it always has been: getting back in office so we can reverse the alarming increase in crime that’s happened under my illegally appointed successor,” Warren said in a prepared statement. “To do that, we need a true leader committed to serving this community, not the governor’s political agenda.”

In suspending Warren, DeSantis accused him of “incompetence and willful defiance of his duties.”

Warren is one of two prosecutors who will be on the November ballot after getting suspended by DeSantis. Also trying to win back her job is Democrat Monique Worrell, who was suspended in 2023.

Worrell will face two opponents in the 9th Judicial Circuit, including Andrew Bain, who was appointed by DeSantis as state attorney. Bain is running as an unaffiliated candidate in the circuit, which is made up of Orange and Osceola counties.

Also in the race is Seth Hyman, who won a Republican primary Tuesday. Worrell did not face a primary opponent.
