There’s a new sushi bar and grill coming along at 25916 Sierra Center Blvd. in Lutz. Zukku-San comes from Ferdian Jap, the restaurateur behind both Zukku Sushi stationed at Armature Works in Tampa Heights and Ato Poke at The Joinery food hall in Lakeland.

On a phone call with Creative Loafing Tampa Bay, Jap said he’s shooting to open doors in the next three weeks if all goes smooth with permitting.

He also explained the significance of Zukku-San’s name. “The use of ‘San’ in Japanese is a sign of respect. Zukku-San is a higher elevated experience, versus Zukku’s stall at Armature Works,” Jap said.

The concept is leveling up in every way. For instance, the Armature Works location is 300-square-feet whereas Zukku-San boasts 2,600-square-feet. Being that there’s more space, the Lutz joint can offer full-service dining and a seriously expanded menu.

Jap also told CL that Zukku-San will operate as a fast-casual concept for lunch service and transition into a full-service restaurant for dinner. Seeing as how the resto is right across the street from Tampa Premium Outlets, Jap believes that although the transition between lunch and dinner might be tricky, it will be ideal to accommodate all guests from hungry shoppers to locals on date night.

The menu is in the final stages of edits, but diners can expect to be dazzled with new dishes as well as Zukku classics like sushi rolls, bowls and burritos. To get the neighborhood hyped up, Zukku-San has a contest where you can enter to win a year of free sushi by texting 31996.

Zukku-San is growing closer to its opening, and the concept is hiring for all positions through its website. If you’re not in the Lutz area, you can opt to apply for Zukku’s other locations.

More details to come as an official opening date is announced.
