Tampa Bay is no stranger to powerhouse harp players (just go see Adam Seth Lynn do his thing with Katara and other bands). Oddly enough, this won’t be the first time a major harp act has graced a local stage either (Mary Lattimore opened for Parquet Courts in Ybor City four years ago). But let us tell you now: you don’t want to miss this set from harpist/vocalist Marilu Donovan and violinist/vocalist Adam Markiewicz—collectively known as New York City duo Leya.

The band’s 2018 album, The Fool, is required listening, but critics and fans alike are currently flocking to Flood Dream, Leya’s 2020, 36-minute journey through nine tracks of initially tranquil (“Weight), then arpeggiated (“INTP”), discordant (“Flesh”) and cathartic (“Flow”) expression that easily makes for the best Wednesday night concert happening in Tampa Bay. Leya may end up being DIY-darlings forever, but you’ll never forget letting yourself get lost in the mix at this one.

Fingers crossed for some of the new remixes Leya’s released, but even if they don’t appear, Romeo Blu—the synth and sequencer-driven EBM-flavored project of expat-come-home Carson Cox (Merchandise, Too Free)—plays direct support. Get there early, too, as the openers include recently-reunited Tampa production duo Alien House opens the show.

Leya w/Romeo Blu/Alien House. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 8 p.m. $10-$12. Hooch and Hive, 1001 W Cass St., Tampa. aestheticized.com
