Indie 101: Aubrey Debauchery.

When I introduced myself to Aubrey Debauchery she was just… Aubrey Debauchery and she won my heart with the lyrics “Cause two months is too long for anyone to keep strong so I'm gonna jump your bones the second I get home, and love you through and through.” Since October, little miss Aubrey has become Aubrey Debauchery and the Puke Boots and has released a new album. Tell me that if you saw a flier with that band name on it you wouldn’t be drawn in. Come on-tell me you wouldn’t. YOU CAN’T.
Aubrey recently told me that she never really wanted to be a solo artist. She has been in bands since she was 15 years old but just never knew who would want to play with her. She explained, “Luckily Marc Anderson [Lap Steel and best friend] encouraged me enough to finally get something together so we teamed up with our friends Adrian Hammons and Tino Marrufo for the new album. Tino is a busy man and gigging all over Chico doing jazz or shows with his band Mute Witness so when Casey Schmidt signed up to be a puke boot- the band came about.”
When I asked how the “puke boots” name was born, Aubrey said, “There's a bar here [in Chico] that pays the bands in liquor all night long, and I'm a thirsty gal. In short, I didn't feel so good the next morning.”
Back to those lyrics I mentioned in the beginning…they are from Love Song For No One and I featured it on episode 4 of the show. I remember when I talked to her about featuring it she told me that they hardly ever play it anymore at shows and my heart was shattered. Luckily, in this round of interview questions she comforted me by saying “We just don't play that song much around our hometown because I've been playing it since 2004 or something. We do occasionally put it in the set when we're out of Chico or out of state. It's still around, don't worry ;)” This song was inspired by Aubrey missing a very special boy back home after being on a two month long tour. She also said “It's really just a song for anyone that's ever crushed, loved, or been away from their loved one for any length of time…”
Aubrey and the Puke Boots have a new album available through iTunes and CDBaby called He’s a Damn Good Liar. Aubrey revealed, "He’s a Damn Good Liar is inspired by a very damn good liar, ex-boyfriends, crushes, outlaw country, and lots of whiskey.”
I would like to wrap this up by sharing that I am extremely proud to give Aubrey the title of “Very First Female Artist Aly has Featured on Tampa Calling.” (Your trophy is in the mail, Aubs!)
When you go out to support this band, win Aubrey’s heart by buying her a drink, and just for shits and giggles-buy her so many that she actually pukes on her boots. Then, take pictures.
