Concert review: Dead Confederate at Crowbar

Dead Confederate headlined an eclectic evening of psychedelic, experimental electronica, soul and straight up rock this past Friday, April 24, at Crowbar in Ybor City with support by The Future on Films in Space, The Beauvilles and Palantine.
Dead Confederate, which hails from Athens, Ga., is hard to describe ... their stage set-up suggests metal while their stage presence more like grunge, but the music itself is decidedly clever. The Onion suggests that Dead Confederate is forging a new genre of music ... check them out and decide for yourself!
Dead Confederate is Hardy Morris (vocals, guitar), Brantley Senn (bass, vocals), John Watkins (keys, vocals), Jason Scarboro (drums), and Walker Howle (guitar)
The Future on Films in Space features dueling electronic keyboards, a space transponder, the happiest drummer I have ever seen, and a lead vocalist that can also play the tin whistle.
The Beauvilles are Tampa natives that have been making quite a name for themselves expanding outside of Florida with multiple trips to SXSW and other distant points. I enjoy photographing this band because each performance incorporates something novel and capturing that something new is a fun challenge for me. The Beauvilles' latest release, Whispering Sin, is definitely worth owning, so that when you show up to their next Tampa show at WMNF Heatwave on May 16, you can sing along.
The Beauvilles are Shawn Kyle Beauville (Guitars/Voices/Scotch), Craig Solomon Holmes (Drums/Curses&Clues), Christopher Tolan (Guitars/Harmonies/Trouble)
and Johnny Barker (Bass/Gordon's Gin/Stavros)
Tampa's Palantine are allegedly taking a break for the summer so if you missed them at this gig, you'll have to rely on recordings to get you through. Luckily, Palantine is a prodigous producer of quality recordings so you'll have lots to choose from, including their most recent release Melee.
Palantine is Vinnie (Vocals/Guitar), Brian (Vocals/Bass) and Jeff(Drums)
