Concert Review: The Ting Tings @ Orpheum Sunday night

Adding to a slew of sold-out shows across Europe and the United States, British duo the Ting Tings played to a packed Orpheum on Sunday night.
Lead singer Katie White, decked out in sparkly tights and red ankle boots, pounced energetically onto the stage and launched into the band’s first song, “We Walk.” She and her partner, drummer/singer/guitarist Jules De Martino — who was equally fashionable in neon green sunglasses that matched his T-shirt —filled the next hour with lovely vocals and some serious jamming.
In her adorable British accent, she punctuated the set with song introductions and asked just one thing of the audience: “We want you guys to dance tonight!” The crowd heeded her call, moving constantly throughout the night and stopping only to cheer for an encore when the band dashed out the side door after “Impacilla Carpisung.”
De Martino came back first, played around with the keyboard a bit and called on the audience to dance before grabbing a guitar and leading the closer, “That’s Not My Name.” One of Ting Tings best-known singles, its introduction elicited the loudest cries from the crowd, who chimed emphatically along to the chorus.
Amid resonating guitar chords and a reverberating final note, the Ting Tings flew off the stage and out the side door onto the tour bus, leaving a pumped crowd in their wake. A dozen or so fans rushed to the stage in an attempt to grab a guitar pick or drum stick, any lasting remnant of the band’s spirited performance.

Nice review Michelle - it was a nice change for orpheum to be mostly smoke free too and also wanted to extend special thanks to the awesome audience members who graciously allowed me up front for a bit to take these photos!

I lived in London most of my life but moved to Florida about 13-years ago.On Sunday 29th I just happened to be in a place called Ybor City in Florida for a friends art show.My family and I spotted a tour bus outside a club and went to check it out,to my amazement The Ting Tings where rehearsing,what was even more amazeing was that a year ago I had heart surgery and The Ting Tings CD was the first one I brought after coming out of hospital,and is actually the one playing in my truck right now.I wasnt trying to get any free tickets or anything but would have liked a photo with the band as it was early and there was no other people around,but the bouncers where having none of it,even after I told the my story,I was very disapointed,what a shame.Ime sure if they knew they would have came and spoke to me.
