Ron Asheton, the legendary guitarist for The Stooges, has passed away. There really isn't much more that needs to be said. Ron was a guitar god in the eyes of those who had rejected the conventional, mainstream guitar gods (Clapton, Hendrix, Page, ect).
The scope of his influence is larger than most realize. His sound was unmistakable; like a rusty dagger ripping through his guitar strings. He defined the Stooges psych/garage aural assault. Since The Stooges reformed several years ago, I've been hoping that I would get a chance to see this reconstituted power house; but alas, that day will not happen. Rest in peace, dear Ron; I'll play extra loud for you this weekend.

This is sad news. Definitely one of my favorite guitarists of all time. Without Fun House I probably would have quit music 5 years ago or something like that. He definitely did the most with very little. There is a certain vibe to his playing that was truely experimental: he didn't really know what he was doing and just ran with it and bashed it out anyway. if only we could all be that brave.
