New indie label Mohawk Bomb launched in Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay-based Mohawk Bomb Records just issued its debut disc, an impressive compilation dubbed No Lip Vol. 1. The 13-track CD features bands running the rock gamut: alternative, indie, punk, emo, power pop, garage, screamo and Goth. Five of the acts are local: Soulfound, Adrift, Anareta, Knowing Stu and Drew Street Mary, all of which contribute winning numbers. The rest of the bands are from across the country and Canada, with the scrappy garage rockers Pirate Love calling Norway home.
"Mohawk Bomb Records is a new kind of indie label, trying to figure out how to outmaneuver the current music industry business model without having to drain our artists souls," reads the letter sent to CL by label founder/Soulfound singer/bassist Ivan Pena. "We are driven to succeed on our own terms and bring new texture to the bland pourage that is the pop music sonicscape. We believe in 1) open communication 2) transparent accounting 3) using technology to drive music distribution and 4) reinvesting in our bands."

Wade, thanks for the mention in the blog. I appreciate your help in spreading the word about Mohawk Bomb. We have lots of great things planned for the rest of the year, so stay tuned. As Joran would say, "STAY UP!"

Yes! I can't wait to see and hear this CD...I'm sure it's a solid and eclectic mix of different and compelling music. And way to go in helping to reinvent the "traditional" label norms of parasitism and lack of integrity from a grass roots, local and regional level. The days of the ever-consolidating major labels controlling every practical aspect of an artist's career are thankfully waning...and knowledge, education, motivation, using the power of all of the available tools, and empowerment can change the current environment from label controlled to ARTIST-centric. And that's a pleasant thought. I wish Mohawk Bomb the best and much success, as well as all the participating bands individually and collectively. Peace.
Glad to see everyone excited about the new label and all the fine local/national acts it's repping. I'd like to see a Mohawk Bomb CD release party featuring its local acts and maybe a few of the out-of-towners...
FYI -- Plans are in motion for both East Coast (here)and West Coast (LAX) release parties.
Received a copy of the comp a few days ago and gave it a listen.............Im just glad I didnt pay for it. The idea is good, like thousands of Comps before it. Time will tell if this indie label will go anywhere or do anything that hasnt already been attempted and failed in the past. Good Luck
