This past doozy of a three-day weekend/bender continued Saturday with five local acts performing at the CL in Concerts Independence Fest. The bash took place at the State Theatre. I arrived in time to catch emotive math rockers Military Junior turn in a taut, frisky performance that brought me to the lip of the stage.
The trio recently posted a new song, Unconventional, on its website and is recording a full-length they hope to have ready for release by October. Its going to be a little more mainstream sounding, said singer/guitarist Jason Schultz (pictured left).
He and I had just finished watching alt-country ensemble Have, Gun Will Travel deliver yet another set that left me wondering why this Bradenton band isnt in a balls-out bidding war with New West, Bloodshot and Lost Highway. Incidentally, HGWT is meeting with a prospective manager who has the juice to make such a thing happen.
Were going to talk to him at the Americana Fest July 19 at Skippers Smokehouse, HGWT leader Matt Burke (pictured left) said while relaxing with his bandmates backstage prior to their winning performance.
Future Process, Mouse Fire and Car Bomb Driver also performed Saturday.
Will Quinlan, with whom I had a touching conversation regarding reaction to my recent profile of him, joined HGWT for the number Pins and Needles.
Nessie bassist Joey Neill, who performed at the Hot Dog Show, was also in attendance Saturday.
