Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., Have Gun, Will Travel and more

Here's what I have running in this week's Creative Loafing:

  • Bruce Springsteen gets Boss-y at the Forum. Another show I can't miss. Look for a review of it by Senior Editor Eric Snider or me — or both of us — posted here on Tuesday; we'll be attending the concert together.

  • Avril Lavigne, Car Bomb Driver and more in Music Week. I got a bit wordy on the Lavigne entry but thought her pilfering ways needed to be revealed.

You know who Bruce Springstein reminds me of? Billy Joel! Maybe you guys can snuggle during "streets of Philadelphia".

OK, better Pennsylvania song: "Streets of Philadelphia" or "Allentown"?

Not even a contest. That's like saying "what's better, a kick in the groin, or a new episode of Murphy Brown?". Come on. A piece of trivia, I have heard from some very reliable sources that "Allentown" was the original choice for the theme music to "Bosom Buddies"! You don't see Peter Scolari asking just anyone to score his art... Take that "teh boss"!

We Didn't Start The Fire or Glory days? I'm calling it a draw.

OK, better song about Halloween — The Stranger or Brilliant Disguise?

I would try to balance out the anti-jersey stuff with pro-jersey stuff, but I can't find any. As for the anti-boss stuff, it's time someone awoke from the lackadaisical stupor his music apparently overtook America with. I doubt my one anti-boss comment is going to hurt his Borders and Starbucks sales. And the only Halloween song I listen to is "Monster Mash". And, on a side note, I think Glory Days pales in comparison to the Lindsey Buckingham song Holiday Road. These subjects are not related, but the facts are still true.
