What's truly your favorite song of the year?

If you have iTunes, you can check the Top 25 Most Played Feature. I did the other day to find Amy Winehouse's "Love is a Losing Game" barely beating out The White Stripes' "Icky Thump" and the Silversun Pickups' "Lazy Eye."

Actually, most of Winehouse's entire Back to Black LP is on my personal tally. What can I say? I'm a sucker for party girls with serious pipes.

Anyway, here's a rough draft of a Download blurb I did for our Spins section. It will run in the CL that hits newsstands July 11.

45th At Night: Amy Winehouse

AMY WINEHOUSE

MTV.com

MTV’s new series 45th at Night is a nice addition for the music network, and posting the intimate, live concerts online for all to see for free ain’t bad, either. But the big props go to Amy Winehouse for delivering a gripping performance that speaks to her jazzy chops and assured-yet-sensual stage presence. Joined by an ace band that includes a horn section and male back-up singers, Winehouse performs material from her acclaimed LP Back to Black. A throwback in the best sense of the word, she toys with phrases and messes with the arrangements while never undermining the emotional heft of such soulful gems as the title-track and “Love is a Losing Game,” which features a smart cameo from Mos Def.

Here's the link.
