Colorado’s much loved jamgrass outfit always brings a lot of warm bodies to Jannus, many of them crunchy and carefree as they get down to Younder Mountain String Band’s fun-loving originals, like the dirt road spring-bop of “Rambler's Anthem” and cheeky reggae-tinged “2 Hits and The Joint Turned Brown,” along with genre and era-hopping covers of songs that include John Hartford’s “Steam Powered Aereoplane,” the Beatles’ “Dear Prudence,” and “Girlfriend Is Better” by Talking Heads among other delights. They sing in tuneful four-part harmony and use traditional instrumentation (banjo, acoustic guitar, mandolin, upright bass), but leave plenty of room for improvisation. Fiddler Jason Carter of The Del McCoury Band joins Yonder for their annual St. Pete stop.
