On the verge of the upcoming election and the RNC taking over the Tampa Bay area, we could use a little comedy in our lives. D.L. Hughley, Gary Owen and Jay Pharoah (pictured) are coming to the to provide just that in a WLLD 94.1’s all-star stand-up show. Hughley made up one fourth of Spike Lee’s classically hilarious documentary The Original Kings of Comedy. Though known mainly for his long-lasting sitcom The Hughley’s, his stand up is not prime-time appropriate. He jokes about things you know you shouldn’t laugh at but feel okay about it because every else around you is in tears. You may not recognize Gary Owen, though recently starring in the movie Think Like a Man and being added to the cast of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, but you will remember him after the show because his relatable pop culture-referencing comedy will have you telling all your friends about him after the show. With some of the major players of Saturday Night Live leaving, Pharoah is the hope of the next generation. His impressions of people like Jay Z, Will Smith and Denzel Washington are hilariously spot on. Pharoah gives us hope that next season of SNL won’t be like the season had Robert Downey Jr. and Anthony Michael Hall as cast members. You don’t remember that season? Exactly. —Stephanie Powers
