Renowned local artist Dominique Labauvie
has created site-specific drawings for the Gallery 221 space joined by a large sculpture forged from Carnegie steel, titled "Flying Buttress" — a piece that achieves, according to the artist, a quality inherent in both art and life — "a certain fragility.” Also included are 44 small pieces, each created from the wire surrounding a champagne cork, installed along the back gallery walls as a show within a show. Gallery reception is Sept. 5, 5-7 p.m. At 6 p.m., attend an informal discussion between the artist and Gregg Perkins, artist, writer and University of Tampa associate professor. A previously recorded discussion between them is part of a museum quality eight-page catalogue that will be available at the reception. Showing in tandem will be works from Mishou Sanchez's Art Icons
series. Sanchez will be at the reception to discuss her works.
