TradeWinds’ Splash Island

When: Wed., Aug. 8 2012
Reach the beach before the afternoon thunderstorms and head to the sands off TradeWinds in St. Pete Beach. The resort’s Splash Island Water Park is a 15,750-square-foot floating attraction within the swim zone off the beach at the TradeWinds Island Grand. It features inflatable slides and other aquatic playground fun. Also, just added: the super-cool Sci-fi JetLev — a water-propelled jetpack that soars up to 30 feet at 30 miles per hour. TradeWinds is the first on Florida’s west coast to offer the jetpacks, which allow you to glide into and over the Gulf of Mexico — even walk on the water. Each JetLev session is 45 minutes, with a ride time of 30 minutes. The cost is $250 for hotel guests and $285 for non-guests. Fliers must be at least 18 years of age. To see a video of the JetLev in action, go to JustLetGo.com/JetLev. In addition, the park will offer spins on the Gyrosphere, where guests can flip and spin the day away, and the bungee trampoline is now running at night under the glow of neon lights. Other new offerings include stand-up paddleboards, supersize Kinect video games, 100-foot slack line, tetherball and BiminiRing.
