If a Cirque show broke out on the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Traces is likely what it would look like. The energetic new acrobatic, theater experience takes stage at the Straz this week, and has been wowing critics on Broadway and beyond. Described as “a thrilling modern brand of circus with a street smart twist,” Traces relies on an amazingly talented cast who at first glance, appear to be little more than average millennials, simple friends getting through their day to day together. Ninety minutes later, it’s obvious from the exhilarating, heart-pounding spectacle, featuring music, dance, illustration, skateboarding, and even basketball that there is much more to behold here. Traces aims to be the ultimate affirmation of life, a celebration of endearing young artists. They fly with grace, they jump through the hoops that life presents, all in effort to entertain each and ever audience member. Stay after the Wed., Jan. 30, performance for a post-show talkback in theater; subject to cancellation. —Brian Lawrence
