Total Bummer Forever Festival w/Javelin/Helado Negro/Reptar/Jamaican Queens and many more

When: Thu., Aug. 29 2013
totalbummerfest.com
This fest was founded by Spirit Cat (a Florida tape label), and despite being a "by artists/for artists" event that hasn’t dedicated any funds to advertising or promotions, Total Bummer has managed to succeed by word-of-mouth and a wide-spanning bill that touches on all the high-quality and hot emerging indie talent Florida has to offer, topped off with a handful of notable national-caliber acts. A few hit Tampa this weekend while a few others do not and are worthy of your attention. Among those, new favorite NY/LA duo Javelin, their recent sophomore full-length Hi Beams appealingly eccentric electro-psych pop with shades of Brian Eno and ELO influence, and songs marked by whirring synths, fuzzy guitars, sporadic effected vocals, beat-driven production, and plenty of samples and sound blips. The fest is held Thursday-Saturday; details at totalbummerfest.com.
