The epic tale with music by Giacomo Puccini (La Boheme, Madama Butterfly) follows a woman whose lover is arrested and tortured after she harbors a fugitive — and if that weren’t enough — a corrupt police chief blackmails her for the unthinkable in exchange for her boyfriend’s life. It’s another tragedy with Puccini's penchant for eloquent statements about honor and love. Side note: Tosca is prominently featured in Milk, the award-winning movie about the GLBT civil rights hero, portrayed by Sean Penn. Performed in Italian with English surtitles. This production stars Stella Zambalis as Floria Tosca, David Gustafson as Cavaradossi, and Todd Donovan as Scarpia. Mark Sforzini conducts with stage direction by A. J. Wester. —Julie Garisto
