If Throwback Thursday doesn’t satisfy your appetite for nostalgia, plan to gorge at Saturday’s opening reception for Toons, a lighthearted exhibition of works by 53 Tampa Bay artists at Bluelucy’s pop-up gallery in Ybor City. Each artist used a 15-inch by 15-inch panel to pay homage to a cartoon character or series selected from a list of 150 supplied by Bluelucy. Famous Hanna-Barbera and Looney Tunes favorites — the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Bugs Bunny, Road Runner — will be out in full force along with more obscure figures (e.g., Tranzor Z, a Japanese manga-derived super robot who landed on American TV in 1985) and forgotten historical icons (Mickey Mouse’s lapine predecessor, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit; Tex Avery’s racy Red Hot Riding Hood from 1943). Thirty- and fortysomethings can look forward to a reunion with Fat Albert, Jem and the Holograms, Beavis and Butthead, and Ren & Stimpy. Thanks to YouTube, even the ‘toons you never knew can be called up on your smartphone with a few taps. Show opens with a reception on Sat., Aug. 23, 7-11 p.m., Bluelucy Gallery Ybor City, 1600 E. Eighth Ave., Suite A137, Tampa, 727-251-8529, —Megan Voeller
