Some educational programs successfully bridge personal experience and new concepts, adding depth and dimension to the learning process. For 11 years Journeys in Journalism has been achieving both ends in St. Pete — and something wonderful for the community by way of stunning photography, writing and other media. This year the program’s annual showcase encompasses projects from all three of its journalism schools: Melrose Elementary, John Hopkins Middle and Lakewood High. Through Our Eyes: Midtown and Beyond, tells students’ stories of the people, places and things in their neighborhoods that have significant meaning to them. The work includes photography, writing and video reports. Opening night, Oct. 19, 5-8 p.m., will include student led tours of the work, music by the John Hopkins Jazz Band and an introduction from community leaders. The traditional Taste of Midtown serves up food from neighborhood restaurants and is on Oct. 23, 5-8 p.m.
