’20s
Wouldn’t you just love to be dropped off in the decade of Art Deco and sequins? Close your eyes and picture the speakeasy. Now open them. Here we have two gorgeous flappers, one in a genuine article from Ramblin’ Rose Upcycle and the other in a blue reproduction from Buffalo Gal Vintage. Photographed on Roser Park Drive in the heart of a neighborhood where many of the houses were built in the 1920s.
’30s
Beaded chiffon began to sparkle in the 1930s, and La France whirled through its Ybor City archives to reveal this bias-cut beauty. Reach for the nearest oxygen mask and breathe in the magic that is this cape. How could we possibly resist something so stunning, so charming, so chartreuse?
’40s
Albeit a bit buttoned up, the 1940s made their mark on fashion with floral prints and pencil skirts. Masculine style for ladies also made a splash in the ’40s and is resurfacing on runways today. This cover look — an authentic, velvet-trimmed dress — hails from Sherry’s Yesterdaze. Hats off to them. (Shoes from La France)
’50s
Shed the poodle skirt and swing dance in a funky ’50s Squaw style. This is the real deal, and a real score from Buffalo Gal Vintage, where finding an outfit is almost as much fun as wearing it.
’60s
Peace, love, fashion and fringe. Yeah, the hippies had it right. This flower child was styled at Misred Outfitters. Daisies not included. So much phenomenal style strutted its stuff in the ’60s: the tuxedo, the empire waist, patterned tights and an all-time favorite, leopard print. Grrrr, baby.
’70s
From chevron stripes to platform shoes, fashion hit all kinds of high notes in the ’70s. Lillie Rubin fashions played leading lady in the ’70s and ’80s, showing off at hot spots with sparkle and sass. ARTpool Gallery steps onto the scene with this glittery gold and purple Lillie Rubin jumper perfect for a disco revival (paired with boots from La France).
’80s
Peplums are blossoming again, but much of ’80s fashion is best left tucked away. Brilliant color and a cool street attitude, however, remain in style. This pop star, an original-tags-on Christian La Croix number (found at Buffalo Gal Vintage) just had to show up for the decades shoot! And so did Stella — the sweet orange scooter.
