The Florida Orchestra: Gerswhin and National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba

The Florida Orchestra "'S Wonderful" this week with Here to Stay: The Gerswhin Experience, a multimedia concert celebrating the genius of George and Ira Gershwin with vocals by Grammy award-winning soprano Sylvia McNair, dancing by tap man Danny Gardner, rare audio and video footage, family photos and state-of-the-art visuals. Event co-producer Kevin Cole plays piano and sings. Wed., Nov. 7, comes the highly anticipated performance of the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba. Cuban pianist Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera performs Gershwin’s Cuban Overture and more. (Note: Members of The Florida Orchestra will not perform at this event.) Bonus: Works by 15 artists from the Oriente region of Cuba will be on display in the lobby. The touring exhibition had hundreds of visitors and several features on the local news during its recent stay at Nuance Galleries in Tampa. Concerts for Here to Stay are 8 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 2, at the Straz Center; 8 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 3, at the Mahaffey, and 7:30 p.m. on Sun., Nov. 4, at Ruth Eckerd Hall. The National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba performs at the Mahaffey Theater on Wed., Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices vary. floridaorchestra.org. —Julie Garisto
