On Oct 11-13, the Masterworks Concerts return with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, which includes the famously uplifting "Ode to Joy," sung by the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. Ludwig Van was stone deaf when he finished this work, In fact, when he conducted it, someone had to turn him around to acknowledge the thundering applause from the audience, because he could not hear their enthusiastic response. Performances take place at the Mahaffey, Straz and Ruth Eckerd Hall. On Oct 18, the orchestra performs the Classical Mystery Tour: Beatles Tribute — with costume changes to reflect each Beatles creative period. Oct. 19 brings the musicians back to Vinoy Park for its annual Free Pops in the Park Concert, covering Latin music, pop tunes, film scores, patriotic themes, Broadway hits and more. On Oct. 20, the Free Pops in the Park Concert takes place at River Tower Park in Tampa.
