Bizarre crimes from Tampa police files

HORSING AROUND: Tampa police officers on late-night foot patrol in Ybor City approached a 2002 Buick blasting its sound system at East Seventh Avenue and North 19th Street. The car's occupant noticed the cops, rolled up his window and drove away "in a reckless manner." At about the same moment, mounted patrol officer Salvatore Mazza responded to the intersection of East Eighth Avenue and North 19th Street to handle traffic congestion. As the officer worked to clear the departing partiers, the Buick turned the corner and sped down Eighth on an equine collision course. Per the report: "Both the officer and the horse landed on the hood/windshield of the defendant's vehicle upon impact." Fortunately, both the two- and four-legged officers sustained only minor injuries, and the driver of the Buick was arrested and charged with DUI.
