The Trop honors Lou Gehrig when The Tampa Bay Rays take on the New York Yankees for their annual ALS Awareness Game. It’s been almost 75 years since Gehrig lost his life to the disease and there’s still no known cause, treatment or cure for ALS. One aspect that's known is that ALS is more likely to strike sports vets. At the game, Rays announcer Andy Freed will read Gehrig’s famous farewell speech and Gary Welt, an ALS patient who is a Navy SEAL, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
