Perhaps the only Tony Award nominee who cites This is Spinal Tap as his primary inspiration, Stephen Lynch is nationally recognized as a comedic musician for his Comedy Central stand-up appearances and lead role in the 2006 Broadway run of The Wedding Singer. Lynch is in part a YouTube sensation; due to his online videos, he headlined sold out concerts on a tour of Europe in 2008 with no previous live track record in most of the countries. With a repertoire of songs skewering American culture, he was heavily influenced by Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon and has opened for off-beat super-comedians Stephen Wright and Lewis Black. Lynch is touring to promote his highly anticipated album Lion, which currently has such choice titles as "Too Jesusy" and "Whiskey Dick," and has a painting of a worried and dejected owl on its cover. —Kent Roberts
