Steve Martin said, "Comedy isn't pretty," and nowhere is that truer than in the performance genre of improvisation. Good improv can be a little rough around the edges and bad improv is utterly unwatchable. Luckily we have seen a surge in improv groups in the area and some of the best groups will be showing their stuff along with groups from across the nation at Sarasota's annual festival at Florida Studio Theatre. Tampa Bay's The Third Thought performs 7 p.m. Fri., July 11, and Hawk and Wayne perform Fri. at 8 p.m. See Tampa's Post Dinner Conversation and Dear Aunt Gertrude Sat., July 12. The fest is about enrichment as well as entertainment, providing numerous workshops throughout the day.
