Like a stream-of-conscious scrapbook crafted with meticulous care, Ryann Slauson's latest menagerie of memory-influenced ephemera gives us objects, paintings and prints she created over the past two years while pursuing her MFA at SUNY Purchase. If You’re Not Getting Better, You’re Getting Worse is the former Sleepy Viking drummer's second solo show at Tempus Projects. The collection captures moments of nostalgia and disappointment and uses "elliptical and melancholy narratives pulled from memories, family mythologies, and scraps of pop culture’s iconography." Hand-crafted from plaster, paper, cardboard, fabric, and papier mache, the pieces in Slauson's show offer dreamlike flashbacks of everyday imagery through Slauson's uniquely personal perspective. Opening reception July 12, 7-10 p.m., and on display through Aug. 2.
