In April, the resident sound tech at State Theatre and Local 662, Jason Smith, was on his bicycle crossing First Avenue North only a few blocks away from both venues when a speeding motorcyclist crashed into him and sent him straight to intensive care. Though he managed to survive the collision, he lost part of his leg in its aftermath and his medical bills aren’t going away. A group of local musicians have banded together to help Jason with this Saturday night’s genre-spanning multi-band, multi-stage benefit; Emerald Bar and his two ‘home’ venues, the Local and State Theatre, all take part in the charitable festivities.
A raffle features gift certificates from Daddy Kool Records and tickets to hot upcoming shows (like Marilyn Manson and Icona Pop), among other goodies, while the silent auction encompasses art and several limited edition guitars, including a Dean Dimebag Series model and an axe from Against Me!. All proceeds from admission, raffles and auction go to Jason to help with his accident bills.
