Launching a slick 'n' snazzy new space and art lounge co-conceived by a braintrust of local artists and cultural figureheads —including building owner Paul Tabio, curators Kurt Piazza and Tracy Midulla Reller (of Tempus Projects) among others — the new Box on Fifth will be featuring new and recent works from two Tampa artists named Justin — Myers and Nelson — and Clearwater artist Danny Olda. “I chose the name Hypostasis to reflect what our art has in common,” says artist Olda, who also curated the show. “The art each of us makes falls somewhere between figuration and abstraction, blending the two together.” Nelson’s newest work, on display in the show, reflect his recent trips to Japan. “The sensory overload of the experience and culture spills into this new series,” Olda says. Myers is an artist and musician known for his work with experimental acts Alien House and Diamond Man. Olda’s paintings get their inspiration from magazine advertisements and are named after each of the magazines that influenced them. (Text by Julie Garisto)
