- PRIEST-LY: Experience the sublime metaltastic reverie of the infamous Judas Piest tailgate party in Heavy Metal Parking Lot, screening at the Bricks on June 26 at 10 p.m.
In the '80s, worn out bootlegged VHS copies of Heavy Metal were traded between guys more than X-rated movies.
The animated movie weaves fantasy and science fiction stories filled with sex and violence. Its soundtrack includes many of rocks big dogs including Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult and Cheap Trick. There is even some Journey in there for the ladies who were forced to watch with their boyfriends.
But who were those people watching Heavy Metal? The documentary Heavy Metal Parking Lot, shows you who. Shot in 1986, the movie documents fans tailgating before a Judas Priest concert. If you have never seen this gem you are in for a treat. A drunken, mullet-having, no-shirt wearing, can-beer-drinking, LSD-doing, good time having treat. Within 10 minutes of the movie, you’ll be waving the sign of the horns while shouting “Judas Priest Rules.” Promise.
