CENTRO YBOR The outdoor festivities open with a set of soulful jazz grooves by Orlando’s Vasti (7:30-8:15 p.m.). Distinguished Gentlemen of Brass stage two sets of their classy choreographed brass, which you might remember from the most recent season of America’s Got Talent (8:30-8:55 p.m. and 10-10:45 p.m.); the septet entertains before and after the annual Guavaween Costume Contest (9-9:45 p.m.).
CROWBAR Plenty of familiar high-quality acts throw down at Crowbar. Most intriguing, Ninebullets.net-approved Jessica Lea Mayfield, a drawling Americana singer-songwriter from Ohio whose debut album, With Blasphemy So Heartfelt, was issued by Nonesuch and produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach (11:30 p.m.-12:45 p.m.). Also at Crowbar: Auto!Automatic!! (7-8 p.m.), Saskatchewan (8:30-9:15 p.m.), Have Gun, Will Travel (9:45-11 p.m.), Michael Parallax (1-1:50 a.m.).
CZAR Guavaween’s official ‘Electro-Never Never Land’ host, Czar, welcomes a diverse range of dance acts; the highlight is the return of Rubblebucket (11:30 p.m.-12:45 a.m.), a psych-jam-world music outfit with colorful, brassy swirling melodies, percussive thrust and distinctively lovely lead vocals by Kalmia Traver, who rocks bari and tenor sax and fronts the band with other half, Alex Toth ( trumpet, vox, percs). Also at Czar: Sunbears! (8-8:45 p.m.), Hank & Cupcakes (9-9:45 p.m.), Tortured Soul (10:15-11:15 p.m.), Sounduo (1:15-2:45 a.m.).
ORPHEUM Closing out a night of amazing music is Adrian Younge, who first made his psych soul and funk rock debut at Antiwarpt this summer, and earned a CL BOTB nod for “Best Badass Show” last month; a definite must-see (11:45 p.m.-12:45 a.m.). Also at Orpheum: Thomas Wynn & The Believers (7-8:15 p.m.), Steven A. Clark (8:45-9:45 p.m.), Kendra Morris (10:15-11:15 p.m.).
NEW WORLD BREWERY Two acts on this bill were given the Pitchfork.com seal of approval and have got the indie kidz buzzing. Underground Seattle post-punk rock outfit The Intelligence (8:30-9:15 p.m.) is the brainchild of musician Lars Finberg (A Frames); their 2012 album Everybody’s Got It Easy But Me finds The Intelligence incorporating acoustic guitars, bossa nova horns, and New Wave spacey synths into their not-so-raw-anymore sound. King Tuff (9:45-10:30 p.m.) is the stage name of nasally-voiced Sub Pop-repped singer-songwriter Kyle Thomas, who purveys a pop-hooky charming brand of garage rock. Also at New World: Zulu Wave (6-6:45 p.m.), Old Man Markley (7-8 p.m.), The Wholetones (11 p.m.-12:15 a.m.), The New Familiars (12:45-1:45 a.m.)
MARKET ON 7TH "Best Rock Band" winners Florida Night Heat are obviously not to be missed with their propulsive brew (9-10 p.m.), but Levek has an electro-oooze funky dreaminess that is very intriguing (midnight-1 a.m.). Also at Market: James-Lange Theory (6:45-7:30 p.m.), Sonen (7:45-8:30 p.m.), The Same (10:30-11:30 p.m.).
THE RITZ YBOR In the Ritz Royal sideroom, fresh from dates in Europe and a few sets at CMJ in New York City is Hollywood, Fla.’s own Beach Day (8-p.m.), a sunny nostalgic pop-rock trio with a retro sound marked by the ’60s girl group harmonies sweetly led by singer/guitarist Kimmy Drake. And finally, we have a band everyone’s excited to see — hard-driving, barroom-stomping, heartland-rocking indie fivesome from Brooklyn, The Hold Steady (10:50 p.m.-12:20 a.m.), an appropriate headliner at Guavaween considering they’ve earned unrelenting love and loyalty here with more than a few references to Ybor City in their songs.
