Sure, David Alan Grier may not be Jim Carrey-famous, but he’s kept plenty busy over the past few decades. Most recently, he starred on Broadway in the David Mamet play Race and appears in the forthcoming Tyler Perry film We the Peeples. The actor and comedian rose to fame in the ‘90s on the sketch comedy show In Living Color. His menagerie of characters included the flamboyant movie critic Antoine Merriweather on “Men on Film,” who, with cohort Blaine Edwards (Damon Wayans) panned chick flicks with the signature declaration, “Hated it!” But here’s a tidbit that few know: Grier received his master of fine arts degree from the Yale School of Drama. Yup, the Shakespearean-trained actor has enjoyed quite a diverse career. He nabbed the 1981 Tony for his portrayal of Jackie Robinson in The First and also appeared in the seminal cult comedy I’m Gonna Git You Sucka.
