It’s been coined as the “Most wonderful time of the year.” With Holiday shopping in full swing, the Dali and Beyond Film series showcases its Christmas spirit with a mixture of films, starting Thurs., Dec. 5 with Francois Levy-Kuentz’s documentary, Tragic Comic Genius, at 6 p.m. The film unpeels the myth and interweaves the painter’s theme with his life story. Following the documentary, the series dive into its Christmas spirit, starting with the foreign film, Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, Sat., Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. Set in northern Finland, it follows a young Pietari and his father Rauno, a reindeer hunter, capture and attempt to sell Santa Claus to the leader of the corporation sponsoring an archeological dig. Then, the museum will view the classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas and a number of classic Christmas cartoons the following week, Sat., Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. before showing Joel and the Bots take on the infamous Christmas classic Santa Conquers the Martians on Sat., Dec. 21 at the same time. The series ends 2013 with a pair of classic Christmas TV episodes with The Avengers’ “Too Many Christmas Trees” and The Twilight Zone’s “Night of the Meek” on Sat., Dec. 28 at 1 p.m.
