The annual Cuban Sandwich Show series of events returns with a month-long array of art and cultural happenings that revolve around the city of Tampa. Originally conceived by Gordon and Denise Mhyre, the CS events originated in Ybor City in 1991. Among the activities: Hillsborough Community College-Ybor Campus Art Gallery displays local and regional artists, and on Monday, Aug. 27 see the temporary monument, "Morning in America" by artists Ligorano and Reese. It will be displayed at Lykes Gaslight Square in the early afternoon. After that, head to the West Tampa Center for the Arts and see more of their works and others' with RNC-inspired political themes in Common Sense. Tampa Seen: Homage to Red Grooms, at King Corona, features Joe Howden, Joanna Karpay, Judith Villavisanis and event organizer David Audet. The work on display attempts to capture Mr. Grooms' style while reflecting on a fable of Ybor City as it grows up inside the tiny town of Tampa.
