More than 100 of the nation’s best contemporary craft artists make up CraftArt 2012, an outdoor fine craft show and exhibition taking place this weekend in Downtown St. Pete. This year, the highly anticipated event by locals and out-of-town collectors alike “is all about enjoying the richness of the downtown St. Petersburg experience,” says Diane Shelly, Florida Craftsmen’s executive director. CraftArt presents an excellent opportunity to check out a multitude of established and up and coming fine craft artists with handmade pieces in clay, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal, paper, and mixed media. Art demonstrations and hands-on activities where attendees can create their own art share the pavement with dining and craft beer — yes, craft beer; not a typo — will all be a part of the festivities as well. If you’re looking to fill those empty spaces in your home with one-of-a-kind items, this will be the show for you. —Brian Lawrence
