Despite the repeated derailment of both light and high-speed rail in the Tampa Bay area, the city of Largo is leading the way with the best damn railroad in West Central Florida. Club members maintain the Largo Central Railroad and keep the trains running on time for public use on the first weekend of every month, when Largo Central Park turns into Grand Central Station for kids (and enthusiastic adults) to enjoy the scenic 10-minute ride through the park on 1.2 miles of track. Rides are basically free (a donation is strongly encouraged), and it’s worth it just to marvel at the replica locomotives that run the gamut from CSX and Amtrak to a Japanese bullet train. All aboard! 225 Third St. S.E., Largo, 727-585-9835, LCRailroad.com.
