Tampa Theatre's craft beer blowout should offer a more cheerful buzz than the scary dinosaur heads and bat-infested head trips of Hunter S. Thompson's namesake odyssey. Returning co-chairs Michelle Baker, GM of The Refinery, and Veronica Danko, owner of The Independent Bar and Café, assure us that the events "oddball" and "outlandish" fun will do justice to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Thompson's hallucinogenic memoir from 1971, which director Terry Gilliam adapted in 1998. The movie stars Johnny Depp as the iconic, cigarette-drooping Raoul Duke and Benicio Del Toro as Dr. Gonzo, and per tradition with Tampa Theatre's events, the movie will be screened in the background with nosh and brew by some of the most well-regarded establishments in Tampa Bay: Ella’s Folk Art Cafe, The Birchwood, Mr. Dunderbak's, Rooster and the Till, Cigar City, Green Bench, Cycle Brewing and more. DJ Rich Ranck spins, and a limited-capacity Premium sampling begins at 7 p.m., and grand sampling ticket-holders can join in 8-10 p.m. —Julie Garisto
