A NYU student and singer-songwriter, Gianni Napolitano is the visionary bandleader of The Pine Hollows, his sweet russet vocals piped over vintage-imbued Beatlesque psych-pop melodies, skuzzy Stones-inspired rock n' roll swagger, and '90s-style indie rock fuzz and bouncy Pavement-approved drive. Forthcoming sophomore record
Something My Heart Understands (out Feb. 26 via BMI) is infectious and appealing, from the buoyant horn-dazzled romp of "She's Gonna Break Your Heart" and hopeful bleeding crunch of the title track, to the dark trippy ooze of "After Dark" and winding-and-warping riffage of hopeful set closer "Everything Is Gonna Be All Right." Napolitano is joined by bassist Mike Haldeman, keys player Aviv Goldgeier and drummer Ray Belli on this date, a free show courtesy of the weekly BBQ series.
