A group of Tampa artists create a labyrinth of space, objects and audio illuminating the mysterious city sheltering them as part of the monthlong series of art and cultural events, The Cuban Sandwich Show. At the HCC-Ybor Art Gallery, see works presented by the Artists and Writers Group Inc — an eclectic, mixed-media exhibition that features local and regional artists with pieces specifically created for Tampa and Ybor City, the true home of the Cuban Sandwich (suck it, Miami; or would that be “eat it”?). All the art in each of the showcases — be they visual arts, photography, video, dance, theater, music, cuisine, poetry or literature — is thematically rooted in Tampa and/or Cuban sandwiches. Works include a multimedia installation titled Fanattix , featuring an old industrial fan in Tampa’s Santaella Cigar Factory, shot by Laszlo Horvath (pictured), and stunning digital photo montages of North Tampa and South Tampa by Stephen Gregory.
