St. Petersburg’s Bluelucy Gallery & Studio has distinguished itself as a champion of the art show as a populist event, blurring the lines between fine and commercial arts — and entertainment. Once again the gallery is incorporating the everyday and pop culture but wants to make us squirm a little this time. All of the works in the Tweet-titled #artdealwithit deal with provocative content that ranges from violent to prurient to all-out disturbing. Artists include Aurailieus, Rion Sabean, Emily Dwyer, Daniel Mrgan, Robert Phelps, Adam Graham, Cat Manolis, Christopher Maslow and many others. Side note: Despite rumors of a 600 Block mass exodus, Bluelucy is not moving. Future Bluelucy exhibits include Eat This! (Sept. 21), Calan Ree’s solo exhibit Lore (Oct. 19), Dark Arts: Creep St. Pete Local (co-presented with Keep St Pete Local at Station No. 3, Oct. 26) and Kid @ heART (Nov. 16).
