Posted By on Fri, Jan 20, 2012 at 2:28 PM

With so much to look forward, how can your average movie goer (i.e., you) sift through all the junk releases to find the real instant classic?

That's where we come in. The Reel Projections gang (Dave Russell, Joe Bardi, and yours truly) have studied the release schedule, and we're here to share what we think will be the biggest hits of 2012. Will Avengers live up to the hype? Are there any sleeper films to look out for? What is the most anticipated film of the year? Find out above …

Reel Projections: Not your grandma's Christmas movies

The Reel Projections gang takes on "off the radar" Christmas classics.

Posted By on Tue, Dec 20, 2011 at 4:52 PM

'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the office, not a Christmas movie was rolling, not even Die Hard. Reel Projections regulars David Russell and Joe Bardi, accompanied by Arts and Entertainment editor Julie Garisto, got together to discuss their Christmas favorites —, with a CL twist, of course. You won't hear our thoughts on It's a Wonderful Life or a review of A Christmas Story. Instead, we discuss the horrors of Rudolph and why The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo might be a new holiday favorite (at least for Dave).

The Muppets have been a staple of pop culture for three decades. Now they're back for a new generation to experience for the first time, or to remind older kids what they've been missing. Is this the perfect Thanksgiving movie for you and your family? Watch the video and find out.

But wait, there's more. Click below to hear the rest of the podcast including our take on Chris Cooper's rap, Joe's thoughts on the new Toy Story short, and Dave's touching story about the Muppet song he danced to at his wedding.

Reel Projections: video games give Hollywood a 1-up

The Reel Projections crew discuss the varying "levels" of video game movie greatness.

Posted By on Fri, Oct 21, 2011 at 10:09 AM

Video games have evolved over the years, with the state of the art moving from two rectangles knocking around a square to realistic modern warfare simulations. Hollywood has long supported the video game industry, committing millions of dollars to adapting titles to the big screen. But has the maturity in video games helped or hindered their cinematic counterparts? The (freshly re-dubbed) Reel Projections crew — Dave Russell, Joe Bardi, and Reel Projections producer Matthew Michael "Awesome" — discuss the best and worst video game to movie adaptations.

We're back for another installment of the Reel Projections podcast, this time with a very special preview of The Clearwater Film Festival. For this week's podcast, I journeyed deep into the heart of downtown Clearwater for a conversation with CFF's Executive Director Mike Rembis and Master of Ceremonies Mark Troy. While noshing on pizza and paninis at the lovely Cafe Milano, Mike, Mark and I discussed film screenings, sure-to-be killer parties and what it takes to put on a first-class film gathering.

Please Note: Though a limited number of single-show tickets will be available for $10 on the day of a screening, the best way to experience the Clearwater Film Festival is to buy a Festival Badge, which range in price from $35 up to $350. You CAN NOT get into any parties or educational panels without one, and the badges are only on sale through Monday. Click here to purchase one, and you better make it snappy …
