Phone: 727-895-6620
Price: $20, $15.
From a Californian businessman to an award-winning Manhattan playwright Richard Manley has established himself in the theater world by pulling inspiration from his life. The world premiere of his comedic play, A Question of Words, will be held locally this weekend at Studio@620 in St. Petersburg. The play focuses on Derby Wright, an intellectual poet who tries to rejoin society after years of seclusion following his wife’s death by accepting a house-sitting job in Manhattan. Confrontations with a series of nosey and troublesome characters make the transition rough until a romantic encounter leads the poet to realize that finding happiness is just a question of words. The play will star Jason Beck (pictured), and the playwright will be in studio for the premiere. An after party for those who attend the performance will be held behind the studio at Rococo Steakhouse and will feature Manley as the guest of honor. The playwright will be available to answer audience questions during the event. The evening will also serve to kick off the studio’s 10th anniversary membership drive. —Courtney Combs
