A summer-like swelter didn't prevent hundreds of relatives, loved ones and friends from cheering on 35 scholarship recipients in Odessa on April 9.

At the 15th annual ChairScholars Festival, kids with mobility challenges, blindness and deafness and other disabilities, were given the chance to attend a full four years of college -- an inspiring act of defiance against daunting statistics.…

December football can be pretty exciting, and yesterday the NFL provided some thrills and chills, as well as distinguishing who's for real and who isn't in the 2010 season - so where does that leave the Tampa Bay Bucs? But first, let's take another look at the surreal collapse of the Metrodome in Minneapolis yesterday morning:

Now everybody is pronouncing the New England Patriots the class of the regular season, and through 13 games, they absolutely are. And let me predict right now that if the Pats win the whole thing two months from now, you'll start hearing serious consideration for Tom Brady being The Greatest Quarterback of All Time.…

The biggest story in the almost completed 2010 college football regular season is the controversy surrounding the young man considered the best player in the country, Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. Over the past two weeks, allegations that Newton's father was calling around and specifically requesting that Mississippi State University pay over $100,000 for his talented son to play for that university has tainted Newton's Heisman Trophy prospects.

Heisman voters have until December 6 to cast their ballots on choosing who they believe is the best player in the nation. What do they do without specific evidence?…

For years former CL (or Weekly Planet, as it was then called) editor John Sugg railed in the pages of our publication against the Tampa Tribune for its advocacy of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers getting a new, tax payer paid stadium, which happened in 1996.

Neil deMause, in the pages of FAIR magazine, back in 1999 wrote:

But even at news outlets with no corporate connections to the teams they cover, sports reporting -- and news reporting of sports issues -- is usually skewed toward the interests of local teams.…

Message to Tampa Bay area football fans: While you've decided in the past year to stop religiously following your local team in your favorite sport, the Raheem Morris led ball club has become one of the surprises of the first half of the 2010 season, after the Bucs, led by their 2nd year QB Josh Freeman, held on in suburban Phoenix last night to knock off the Cardinals, 38-35.

The Bucs will take their gaudy 5-2 record next week up to Atlanta in a major showdown for the NFC South supremacy.…

Until this season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had played to, well, if not always sold out crowds in Raymond James Stadium since the facility opened in 1998, crowds that were sufficiently large enough to encourage management to gobble up the remainder of the tickets so that the league mandated 72 hour blackout rule was never put into effect.

But after a dreadful 2009 season that included a completely new identity led by head coach Raheem Morris, expectations were as low as they had been prior to coach Tony Dungy turned the franchise around in the mid 1990's.…

My condolences to all of you Tampa Bay Buccaneer fans, bummed that for the first time since the 20th century (and for the first time ever at Raymond James Stadium in the regular season), your beloved men in orange won't be available to watch this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. However, unlike the pre-season when this happened on two occasions, you won't be deprived of football, as WTSP will instead offer the Buffalo-Miami telecast (which is almost as unappealing as Cleveland-Tampa. As Tom Jones with the St. Pete Times reports this morning, every other game available for CBS to broadcast in Tampa would have been a better choice).

For the first time ever, the media-research firm Nielsen has developed a system for ranking the popularity of NFL teams based on each team's local and national TV rankings, how often they're mentioned on the Internet, and how many visitors they attract to their official websites. The Nielsen Sports Media Index lists the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the 2nd least popular team in the NFL, trailed only by the St. Louis Rams.…

Pat also reminds you that he'll be covering each and every Buccaneer home game and if you can't get there and want live updates because the game is blacked out follow him on twitter.…

Pat Donovan talks about the Bucs preseason being over and assumes Michael Clayton's days as a Buccaneer are numbered. Also hear why Pat thinks the Orioles line up is no match for Matt Garza the way he's been pitching lately and why Pat thinks you will see Brad Hawpe in tonight's Rays line up. Also don't miss Pat and co-host Mike Tyree talking Rays baseball, and even some Bucs football, today on On Deck which will now be calling Friday home each and every week here at CL Sports.…

Pat Donovan talks about the Rays 2-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays last night. Find out which players made a couple amazing defensive plays and which player had a most dissapointing Rays debut.…

Pat Donovan talks about the awful loss suffered by the Rays last night and his belief that Jeff Niemann will be fine despite the rust he's displayed since his return from the DL. Also, hear why as much as Desmond Jennings and Brad Hawpe might help the Rays, the best call up story could be Rocco Baldelli's.…
