Jamie Dimon easily survives vote to split his duties at JPMorgan Chase shareholder meeting in Tampa

At JPMorgan Chase's annual shareholders' meeting in Tampa a year ago, the bank's CEO and chairman of the board, Jamie Dimon, was embarrassed when a close shareholder vote nearly stripped him of his chairman's job in the wake of the corporation's so-called "London Whale" trade loss, which ultimately cost Chase $6.2 billion.

But this afternoon, with more scrutiny on the banking superstar than ever (and rumors that he might bolt if the shareholder vote were successful this time around), only 32.2 percent of the shareholders voted to split his duties, thus insuring that the 57-year-old Dimon won't be leaving Chase anytime soon.…

Last year the issue of the Pinellas County Commission 2011 vote to remove fluoride from the water supply became a huge issue, fueled in part by the editorial page of the Tampa Bay Times rage against the four commissioners who supported that measure - John Morroni, Norm Roche, Neil Brickfield and Nancy Bostock (that editorial campaigned ended up getting two Times' writers, Tim Nickens and Dan Ruth, Pulitzer Prizes for that effort).

With Bostock and Brickfield running for re-election last fall, the issue hung around their necks like an albatross, used in every possible campaign forum or event by their respective Democratic opponents, Janet Long and Charlie Justice.…

Hillsborough County homeless population drops dramatically

The Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County announced today that the number of homeless people in Hillsborough stands at 2,275 — a 47 percent decrease from the 2011 count of 4,681.

You may not be familiar with that 4,681 number, since the Coalition announced in 2011 that there were over 17,000 homeless people in the county, a stunningly high number that seemed to indicate that the problem here was worse here than anywhere else in the nation.…

Two newspapers are reporting this morning that Al Fox, best known for his passionate advocacy for liberalizing relations with Cuba, was pulled over after driving past the speed limit on Dale Mabry Highway back in February, and then tested for a D.U.I. Reportedly Fox failed a field sobriety examination, though when when he was given a Breathalyzer, his blood-alcohol level tested at 0.000.

Nevertheless he was busted and held overnight in jail, before being released the next day.…
